Starovetskyi Myron Mykhaylovych (1936-1997) – Ukrainian trumpet pedagogue

After graduation with honors from Lviv School of Music, and then M.Lysenko Conservatoire in 1963, Myron Starovetskyi was sent to work in S.Krushelnytska Ternopil Music School. He worked there as a trumpet teacher for 35 years. He was one of the organizers of Ternopil municipal wind orchestra “Orchestra Volia”.

Over a period of creative activity this talented teacher has trained more than 100 musicians who today honorably represent the school of their Teacher. Among them - the Honored Artist of Ukraine, Professor Roman Nakonechniy from Lviv Music Academy named after M.Lysenko; the Honored Artist of Ukraine, Associate Professor Volodymyr Podolchuk from Kharkiv National University of Arts named after I.Kotliarevskyy; Associate Professor Igor Borukh from Odessa Music Academy named after A.Nezhdanova; Associate Professor Natan Birman from Ural Conservatoire named after M.Musorskyy, etc. His student – teacher-methodologist of the higher category Bogdan Zhegrai continues Myron Starovetskyi’s art of teaching. Dozens of his students work in schools of aesthetic education, they are professional artists in different orchestras of Ukraine and abroad – in the United States of America, Canada, Israel, France.

In order to memorize Myron Starovetskyi, who gave his heart and talent to music culture, his thankful students in 1999 established the contest for young trumpeters named after their Teacher. At first this contest was all-Ukrainian and then it became international. In 2006 this international contest was held for the second time, and in two years in 2008 – in the third.

IV international contest named after M. Starovetskyi was held in November 2010;

V international contest named after M. Starovetskyi was held in November 2012;

VI international contest named after M. Starovetskyi was held in November 2014.

VI international contest named after M. Starovetskyi was held in November 2016.
